I've been meaning to post my random Saturday adventures but since it isnt that easy to upload photos to my mac, i've been delayed.

So in sum - you never know what will happen , where time takes you, or who you will bump into!

Brunch with friends, reminisce over silly high school days

Two hours later. BUMP INTO THEM ON THE STREET! uncanny.
Wondering up strange buildings that make us wonder how it got legally approved,
could not access the fire stairs and had many posters of warnings about 'in-case-lift-isn't-working-call-xxx'.
lewl. Finding out "The House of Delight" was actually a dessert store and not something else :P
Training into the CBD to assist with providing food to the homeless/rough.
Bump into more friends I havent seen since call centre days  - yes we should catch up - pencil it in
Party party in the evening.
It's nice to be of an age where we can party at someone's house. haha nice and cosy

- caught up with an ol family friend that I havent seen in YONKS! and woahla a townhouse is his!

having learnt how to keep a decent ish eye on them at berkeley, i got to see the rise, peak and dwindlage of the,

 -  fairytale (four remakes of snow white by different companies at the same time! remember that? crazy)

-  comic books (heros heros heros $$$$$ merchandise lol)

- bible epics (moses, noah, red tent)

and now dun dun dun....the dawn of Games & gaming culture!

Warcraft kicked it off but now Warner Bros joining the arc, giving Mindcraft a release date of May 25, 2019; and Dungeons & Dragons in the works.

Hmmm..maybe i should finish that PhD in Comics and Interactive Media hahhahaha

I am impressed the amount of times Imitation Game came up, but hmm..i still am hesitating to watch it considering i've seen the main actors play similar roles before, resulting in nothing "new". If it wins best picture, I will reconsider :P

So the posters are out!

I think the posters are a great insight of what to expect . As the film title suggests and visual also, there is an element of time travel and a slice of what is, was and will be.

Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender as Magneto

Xmen franchise eXtension

So there is talk of an X-Force film *source*

If this goes ahead, it will definitely make $$$$$$  and I will sure be there to watch it.

I cannot wait! X-Force was indeed on of my favourite arcs in the X-Men Universe, where Cyclops heads up a team of his own (Wolverine, X-23, Warpath, Domino, Archangel, Psylocke, Deadpool) to do missions the Xmen wouldn't....couldn't. Along the way you run into Cable, The Legacy Virus, super bad ass foes etc etc .

Darker . Demanding. Daring.

MIFF returns!

Melbourne International Film Festival is back again
Festival Dates  
25th July - 11th August

I have yet to dig into the whole program. but there is soo much good content as always.

Two thus far that have caught my eye are:

The Congress directed by Ari Folman
Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Luxembourg, Poland 120 mins.

 The plot isn't original in the scene that it is a human entering a digital world , the exploration of the avatar, eternity and journey's of no return. However the music, colour palette and editing is something I am most curious to witness unfold on screen.

Reminds me of mash between Satoshi Kon's Paprika story and the French Independent Animation Company Alphanim's  Delta State style of animation.

Either way, I anticipate I shall be writing about this shortly.

 Stoker directed by Park Chan-wook
USA 99 mins.

A South Korean director tackling on Australian actresses Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Jacki Weaver in a US setting. But more so, I'm curious as to how Park Chan-Wook develops characters on screen.

Review_ Like Someone in Love

So yes, I did manage to get a free entry into seeing this film I mentioned earlier *link*

Alrighty, so let me share my thoughts.

Director: Abbas Kiarostami
Main characters from left to right: Takashi Watanabe (Tadashi Okuno), Akiko (Rin Takanashi) and Noriaki (Ryo Kase)

First thing. I loved the way the film started. Credits roll with the backdrop of a busy restaurant/cafe noise for at least 4minutes, builds you up to anticipate the opening shot of what dining in Japan may be like. It also felt like we had just finished watching a movie too.

The camera then was mostly in a static position, as you watched what was a rather ordinary happening in a dim lit bar. Who is the main character you wonder? A red head catches your attention but is only a red herring.

Plot - A dilemma comes up for young university student Akiko is faced with a must attend job and her grandma visiting Tokyo only for a brief few hours during her transit. Akiko is a prostitute and it was a job she isn't allowed to refuse. You never meet the grandmother , nor does she ever talk to her, we are introduced to a character simply through a series of telephone voicemail messages. CLEVER! The whole time Akiko is listening to the messages in the taxi on her way to her "job", the camera remains fixed on a close up of her face as the blur of neon japan whizzes pass.

Amongst all this she has a boyfriend who intends to marry her, is not sure he can trust her and thinks Mr. Watanabe is her grandfather.

Mise en scène  - ★★★★★  . The way the props/set was arranged in front of the mostly still camera was incredible. It was very purposeful and the background/items/placement of objects told just as much of the story as the script.
Camera -  ★★★★★ The camera did a lot of the talking in the film, in the sense of showing us life in Japan, the streets, the shops, the apartments. Mid shots were used to capture all that was in the background, giving the characters depth since there wasn't too much dialogue or on screen drama.

I cannot reveal anymore. It is a slow moving film and it's what is not shown or said that makes this one worth watching. It you have an eye for detail and are a film student then the happenings are predictable and set up through the mise en scène. But apart from that the ending is still a surprise in some ways.

Overall - ★★★★

Bottom line - Don't walk in with specific expectations, just sit back, observe and enjoy =P

i go through phases that ain't necessarily healthy. i should be focusing and being dedicated to full time work. but i've venture into the film and fashion scene again =.=
