Aunt Eleanor bequeaths six-year-old Nat her library of rare books. There's just one catch: Nat can't read.

At night, however, the fairytale characters in the books - Alice, Captain Hook and the Wicked Fairy - come to life from the pages to warn Nat that unless he learns to read they may disappear forever!

Express Media presents: John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers 2010
