Lecture: 2:15pm-3:15pm Wednesdays, Old Arts Theatre C

Screening/other Presentations: 11:00am-1:30pm Wednesdays, LFR, Lower Theatre

Game Studies, Entertainment and Cityscape: an Introduction to the Subject

The course is separated into one 1.5 hour lecture and one 1.5 hour tutorial per week. Lecture times will consist of
a combination of video screening, game playing (in the lecture theatre or in other spaces both on or
off-campus; to be arranged during end-of-lecture consultation with students), and finally, question
and discussion time.

A note to the wary and non-experienced: Students will be given ample access to gaming, including the borrowing of games and the use of PCs and consoles in the Elisabeth Murdoch Resource Centre (Room 113) and the ERC Library. If you have no background in Game Studies, don’t be disheartened -- as a new area of study, it is more than likely that most students will be in the same situation. Likewise, if you’ve had little experience with game play, don’t be discouraged. It will be possible to book a time to use the game playing equipment in the ERC Library or in the Elisabeth Murdoch Library. Here you will either be able to play with the games on your own or with others in the course.

In addition, some screening time will be used for gameplay purposes and lab sessions will be arranged for online gaming and instruction sessions. A list of games available in the School will be available on the LMS – as will the list available in the ERC Library. So make the best of the resources.
