Christmas Day 2011 ...

sheltered indoor from heavy rain,
curled in their radiant warmth
thunder blocked by steady heartbeats
eyes fixed on lightning flickers 

past and future took no hold
only the present mattered 

yet what gave safety and security
also took it away.

deep inside to what seemed forever ,
she knew with certainty it was classified as fleeting ,
to be looked upon one day
